Debbie Whysong, Components Sales, Corle Building Systems

Debbie Whysong has seen massive changes in manufacturing since she started her career. As she has advanced from a part-time administrative assistant to her role today in component sales, she’s seen the industry move from assembly lines to engineering and complex machinery … and countless opportunities. And she says that she’s been able to do it all in a place that provides her much more than Pittsburgh or Philadelphia.

How did you get your start in manufacturing?

In 2008, I started working at the Rosemont Lane office part-time as an administrative assistant. Years went by, and I had the opportunity to work at the company full-time. In 2015, an opportunity arose, and I was able to become part of the Corle Components sales department. Corle Components specializes in selling anything that isn’t a completely designed and engineered building package. This could range from replacement pieces to a complete building re-skin.

What makes your job interesting?

Every day is a new challenge and every customer and situation is different. One person might know exactly what they need, while another may need assistance in figuring out what is necessary to complete whatever task they are trying to accomplish.

Why did you decide to live and work in Bedford County?

I enjoy working in Bedford County because it provides me with opportunities that other larger cities would not. These luxuries include the ability to take walks at lunchtime and the ability to have close ties with the surrounding areas and schools.

Any advice for the next generation of workers?

I believe that the younger generation has to be aware of the substantial changes that the manufacturing industry has undergone over time. From planning and engineering to operating complex machinery, these have led to significant changes in industry today. It is no longer only about assembly lines and physical labor. Manufacturing is a profession that has many opportunities available.
